In working as a social media specialist, managing multi-million dollar businesses, I saw the direct impact of putting love and care into social media pages such as Twitter and Facebook. I also noticed the effect of having random staff members posting here and there (let me tell ya, it wasn’t pretty). At its peak, one of these pages’ total reach for the month was about 169 people. That’s just a waste. I was handed this additional page seven months after my initial hire and watched it explode with a little social media TLC. Since October 2012, the average organic reach per post (Page Like Ads, mentions and check-ins as well as comments and likes) increased 1,261 percent. Average total organic reach went from just 43 in 2012 to its current average of 1,470 ( up 3,383%)! Once I convinced our director to try Facebook ads consistently, our average paid reach increased 5,000%.  WHAT?! New daily Facebook fan likes went up 300%. All of these have been on a steady incline since.

Social media is a delicate business because it’s a relationship between your brand and your customers. And guess what? It’s not going anywhere. It’s an essential tool for the modern business as we begin to live our lives more and more on the world wide web.
